An American Brewer in Europe Shows Its Presence
"'Tis some visitor;" I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door--
Only this and nothing more..."
And the Raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting
On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door....
And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor
Shall be lfted - nevermore! These words
from Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven" are fitting for the Baltimore-Washington Beer
Works (BWBW). This American brewery, which has yet to produce a single bottle in the
States, will not soon fly away from thy yonder shores of Europe. The Baltimore-registered
brewery brews its beer at Anker Brauerei in the Black Forest region of Germany, and shows
sales in five countries in Europe. This summer; BWBW will for the second year serve The
Raven at the Fourth of July festivities at the U.S. embassy in Bonn, with 3,000 guests
invited. Furthermore, at the world's largest sailboat festival, Kieler Woche, where one
million visitors and 2,000 boats will be on hand for the 10-day fest, BWBW will have its
beer available at the U.S. pavilion. In previous years, Miller was the beer served to
thirsty festival-goers. Soon, The Raven will be available in Baltimore and sur- rounding
areas, as its release is expected this summer. So, go bury your old brew? Will this be the
beer that everyone's Raven about - forevermore?
